1. What is a pre-registration?
A pre-registration is a request to register a domain name under a new TLD (top-level domain) before that TLD is actually released. The instant each stage of the TLD is released, the pre-registrations for that stage will be submitted as registration requests to attempt to convert them into live domain names.

No registrar can guarantee that any pre-registration will result in a successful registration. As soon as the new TLD registry goes live, the pre-registrations of all registrars will all be submitted at the same time and will compete to register these domains. By pre-registering your domain you can however, ensure that your domain will be submitted as soon as registrations are accepted and thus significantly increase your chances of getting the domain.
4. How can I maximize my chances of successfully registering my domain?
No registrar can guarantee that any pre-registration will result in a successful registration. As soon as the new TLD registry goes live, the pre-registrations of all registrars will all be submitted at the same time and will compete to register these domains. By pre-registering your domain you can however, ensure that your domain will be submitted as soon as registrations are accepted and thus significantly increase your chances of getting the domain.
1. Pre-register for a Sunrise period application if you are eligible - the Sunrise period comes first
and is restrictive as only certain types of domains will be allowed to be registered.
2. If you are not eligible to apply for a Sunrise period registration then purchase a priority pre-
registration – this is your next best chance for a successful registration.
3. Pre-register early – the longer you wait, the more pre-registrations will have been queued up for
your domain.
5. How will I know if my pre-registrations are successfully converted into live registrations?
After each stage of the new TLD rollout, we will notify you by email as soon as we know which of your pre-registrations were successfully registered and which were unsuccessful.
6. When will I be charged for my pre-registration(s)?
After each stage of the new TLD rollout, we will notify you by email as soon as we know which of your pre-registrations were successfully registered and which were unsuccessful.
1. Application Fee: this is a one-time fee that is charged immediately at the time of the order
(includes Sunrise fees and priority pre-registration fees).
2. Annual Registration Fee: this is a recurring annual fee that is deferred until we successfully
secure a live registration for your domain.
3. Credit Card Pre-authorization: we may pre-authorize your credit card for 3% of the total deferred
annual registration fee charges immediately at the time of the order and also just prior to
submitting your registration requests to the registry.
7. What are the different types of pre-registrations and what do they mean?
Sunrise Pre-Registration
This type of pre-registration is for registrants with a trademark or other types of prior rights on a name. Sunrise pre-registrations are the very first domains that will be submitted to the registry for live registration. If you have a trademark for the domain you want to register then you are encouraged to pre-register under this type as it will give you the absolute best chance of getting a successful registration for your domain name.
Priority Pre-Registration
This type of pre-registration is for customers without a trademark but for those who want to get the next best chance of successfully registering a domain. We only accept 1 priority pre-registration per domain name per new TLD. The priority pre-registration for each domain will be submitted first for live registration once the registry opens, provided that the domain has not already been registered during the Sunrise period.
Regular Pre-Registration
Regular pre-registration requests will be submitted for live registration once the registry fully opens in the order they were received, provided i) no priority pre-registration has been purchased for that domain and ii) the domain has not already been registered during the Sunrise period.
8. What is a premium name?
The premium name list is a compilation of commonly used ("generic") words and phrases which mTLD has set aside for equitable allocation using other than a traditional first come first serve basis.
9. How was the premium name list created?
The premium name list was primarily created using objective criteria compiled through third party sources. Although the original compilation was composed primarily of English words and phrases, a subset of these words and phrases were translated into additional core languages. In creating this premium name list, mTLD sought the input and feedback from its Policy Advisory Board (PAB) which approved the framework which mTLD has followed.
10. What is the status of the premium list?
To create a more leveled playing field in the allocation of these names; increase the likelihood that these domain names would more promptly provide the mobile community with new features and services; optimize the user experience; and preserve the stability and security of registry operations.
11. What is the objective of the premium name list?
To create a more leveled playing field in the allocation of these names; increase the likelihood that these domain names would more promptly provide the mobile community with new features and services; optimize the user experience; and preserve the stability and security of registry operations.
12. When will these names be made available and how will they be allocated?
There is no set date. However, it will likely not be until after the general launch, most likely beginning in the fourth quarter of 2006. However, any final date will be announced in advance along with a final list of Premium Names and proposed allocation mechanisms.
13. If a trademarked name appears on the list what recourse has the trademark holder to remove that name?
In order to minimize any potential trademark problems in connection with the premium name list, mTLD is working with the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center [WIPO] on the creation of an administrative process whereby trademark owners may seek to have their trademark removed from the premium list in line with certain criteria. Details on this process will be published closer to the time of the allocation.
