We are currently looking for:
Linux Systems Administrator
The role is split into the design, installation, and maintenance of Linux server technology for web hosting services. Core tasks will be the management of Apache and related services in a high density server environment, administration of relational database systems, performing system backups, upgrades, and performance tuning. Successful candidates should have experience with large-scale server deployments, and be able to provide proactive solutions to customer problems working in conjunction with our first and second-level support staff.
You will have a can-do attitude, working in a team managing a network of some 500 servers. You will also have responsibility and accountability for project role outs, new services/products and developments of our SME hosting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Working within a team of 6 systems administrators
- Running Linux server architectures
- Managing Apache, MySQL, DNS, Mail, VPN, Sendmail and Postfix Installations
- Managing Backups for all infrastructure and clients
- Configuring security and services in Linux
- Development of scripting and tools
- Keeping track of hardware inventory
- Liaising with Windows team to manage security and networking
Required Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communications as well as commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
- Minimum two years of practical experience in management of Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of most flavors of Unix – Fedora Core, Debian and RH ES etc
- Experience with Parallels technology – such as Plesk, Virtuozzo or PEM
- VMware ESX knowledge
- The ability to design and maintain large server installations in a 24x7 production environment.
- Must have a thorough understanding of standard network services and TCP/IP security concepts, including HTTP, FTP, Email and DNS.
- Understanding of Load-balancing (LVS) and Clustering
- Basic IPTables and IDS knowledge.
Additional/Desirable Skills
- Knows Apache and Linux web servers backwards
- PXE and other server imaging deployments
- Skilled in system integration with other networked systems.
- Project management of systems based initiatives.
- Hardware familiarity (Dell PowerEdge series, IBM x-series, HP server line)
- Capacity planning and datacenter management experience.
- Python/Perl Scripting

The Person/Required Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communications as well as commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
- Minimum two years of practical experience in management of Windows operating systems.
- Experience in operating Windows 2003 and 2008 servers, as well as MS-SQL 2000, 2005, and 2008.
- VMware ESX knowledge.
- Experience with MS-SQL and Active Directory.
- The ability to design and maintain large server installations in a 24x7 production environment.
- Must have a thorough understanding of standard network services and TCP/IP security concepts, including HTTP, FTP, Email and DNS.
- Understanding of Load-balancing and Clustering
