The BBC is set to measure the quality of mobile broadband coverage across the UK using a smartphone application as part of a new investigation.
Using the innovative technology, the organisation unveiled plans to create a map of 2G and 3G internet accessibility across the country.
The survey, announced today (July 18th) on BBC Breakfast, will be carried out alongside network analysis company Epitiro.
Gavin Johns, the company's chief executive, urged Android smartphone users to download the application to measure the strength of the connection in their area.
The advice comes after Mr Johns named the reliability of mobile broadband access the "number one issue for consumers".
Earlier this year, telecommunications regulator Ofcom revealed that 17 per cent of the country's households use mobile broadband to access online content.
In addition, the study found that seven per cent of individuals claimed the technology was their only means of internet connection.
