Windows XP is still powering six in ten corporate PCs despite the growing popularity of Windows 7, according to new research from Forrester.
The organisation revealed around a fifth of all business PCs used to access its website in March were running Windows 7, while just under 60 per cent used the Windows XP operating system, reports Computerworld.
Microsoft is planning to stop releasing security updates for Windows XP in April 2014.
Ben Gray, an analyst at Forrester and co-author of the report on trends in the operating system market, said adoption of Windows 7 is "accelerating".
"The majority of firms will move to Windows 7 during the next year as the extended support phase for Windows XP approaches," he predicted, adding it is "no surprise" that firms are abandoning older versions such as Vista.
However, a survey of 2,000 people conducted by tech news site Betanews discovered 76 per cent of respondents have already made the switch to Windows 7.
