A mainframe upgrade to the IBM System z9 Business Class is set to directly benefit one of the core services of the Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS).
MEPS and IBM announced in a statement today (February 19th) that the upgrade will allow a smarter, more advanced IT environment for internet funds transfer service Interbank GIRO.
The IBM system - which has more than three times the bandwidth of the previous system used by MEPS - is currently used in the services' production and disaster recovery sites.
"With energy costs rising, and power density of new electronics increasing, power-efficient devices are increasing in importance with companies like MEPS," said Ou Shain Waei, managing director of IBM Malaysia.
The IBM data system offers a disk storage and tape solution which ensures that information can be recovered quickly in case of a disaster.
IBM claims to be the world's largest consulting services and technology firm.
