Revenues in virtualisation will continue to grow during 2009, bucking the trend of a global economic downturn over the coming year, it has been claimed.
Research by analysts Gartner has predicted that the virtualisation market will grow by 43 per cent over the coming 12 months on the back of increased traction in areas that have already become heavily involved in the virtualisation sector.
"Banks, telcos - any large organisation with lots of servers and PCs, are the ones who have embraced the technology so far," explained Gartner managing vice president, Phillip Sargeant.
He added that while 2009 would see "more of the same" from these industries during the coming year, "virtualisation will be more widely deployed within those organisations".
However, the company also predicted that there would be an increase in the number of small and medium-sized enterprises choosing to enter into the virtualisation market, with larger firms in this sector able to spend the necessary money to enjoy the benefits.
ComputerWeekly.com recently listed virtualisation as an important tool in helping companies to beat the recession.
