Microsoft has bought the domain name office.com, which is rumoured to be for the forthcoming release of its new Office 2010 software.
Recent searches of domain name registration records revealed that the computing giant purchased the website from the ContactOffice Group.
The site currently features a message redirecting the former owners' customers to an alternative destination on the internet, reports ComputerWorld.
A search of WHOIS revealed that ownership of office.com passed to Microsoft on August 4th 2009.
Long Zheng's Windows blog was the first place to report the purchase of the domain name and he suggested that the company would use the address for the release of Microsoft Office 2010.
A technical preview of this software, which included new versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and OneNote was brought out in May.
According to the company, it will release the full version of the application in the first half of next year.
