Car dealers in the UK are falling behind other sectors in their ecommerce and online offerings, according to a recent study.
Specialist automotive web management firm G-Forces revealed that only 16 per cent of the UK's top 200 dealers offer accessories and parts on their websites.
It noted that franchised dealerships with established ecommerce stores reported that they attract "significant extra parts income" from independent garages in the country.
However, only 20 per cent of the top 100 dealers have an online outlet - a figure which drops to 11 per cent in the top 200.
Tim Smith, commercial director at G-Forces, commented: "Parts and accessories sales can be one of the most lucrative profit centres for retailers."
He noted that the failure to set up basic ecommerce platforms meant that many companies are not capitalising on the moneymaking opportunities the internet affords them.
This comes after Dean Benson, director of digital company VisualSoft, asserted that ecommerce is essential for commercial survival.
