Companies looking to improve the performance of their search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign should ensure that their links feature keywords, it has been claimed.
According to PromotionWorld, firms would benefit from this because one of the ways websites are ranked is based on the number of inbound links.
It noted that the text used to hold the links is crucial because this is indexed by search engine crawlers and this has an impact on ranking.
Consequently, ecommerce stores should take steps to ensure that the links to their online portal feature their keywords.
PromotionWorld added that it is important to try and get as many links as possible.
However, it said that it is more important to get links from a wide variety of different websites.
"If you have 100 inbound links coming from 50 different domains, it is actually better than having 1000 links coming from five domains," it claimed.
Earlier this month, SEO firm Tailormade4u asserted in a Bizcommunity.com article that companies with poor website traffic might find they have a weak SEO campaign.
