IBM launches new web applications security system
IBM has launched a comprehensive internet security solutions package designed to protect professional companies against web application attacks.
The company's new IBM Proventia SiteProtector 8.0 aims to combine security management systems with a range of web application protection solutions, which are intended to make it easier and cheaper for firms to protect their highly sensitive data.
This comes in response to the rising threat posed by web application attacks, with IBM's X-Force 2009 Midyear Trend & Risk Report reporting a 96 per cent increase in SQL attacks, which involve malicious code being embedded into legitimate sites, between the first and second quarter of this year.
Dan Powers, vice president of business strategy at IBM Internet Security Systems, said: "Web application security is one of the top pain points for enterprises today and only IBM can offer a comprehensive solution designed to help turn the tide against … web application attacks."
According to research published by the company last month, 68 per cent of midsize companies across 17 different countries consider security management to be a top IT priority.
