Mobile ads on websites to see growth
A new study has shown how mobile display advertising on websites is expected to increase over the next five years.
According to the study by ABI Research, while the mobile ads spending in the US is worth $313 million today, it is expected to expand to $1.2 billion by 2015.
Much of this growth will be driven by the use of smartphones, although it has been noted that other devices will also contribute.
Furthermore, there will be advertising opportunities through other mobile channels, in addition to display ads on websites, such as text messaging and streamingvideo.
ABI Research practice director Neil Strother said: "Marketers have increasingly been shifting budgets into mobile campaigns. This became evident during our research interviews with advertising agency executives, technology vendors and mobile ad network operators.
"[Networks are] focused on a somewhat different part of the market, but in principal they're open to anybody with money who wants to reach a mobile audience."
Smartphones to hit the market recently include the Apple iPhone 4 and the HTC Desire.
