Domain name gambling.com goes on the market for $9 million
Domain name gambling dot com has been placed on the market at $9 million (£5.77 million) and could become one of the most expensive website names ever.
Sedo Holding AG is looking to find a buyer for the domain name as owners Media Corp look to cash in on a name that would rank highly in search engines, creating the possibility of more new visitors.
The domain currently exists as a portal site, redirecting people to other gambling websites but could be used to create a new identity for a business.
According to The Times, a number of companies are thought to be interested in acquiring the website name, with Playtech and Bet365 among those looking at a purchase.
Media Corp bought the domain name six years ago for a much higher price but its value dropped because of tougher internet gambling regulations across the world.
Other expensive domain name transactions include insure.com and sex.com, both of which sold for over $10 million.
