North Korea's top-level domain name could be available again in the near future after a server problem caused websites to be unreachable.
Some websites ending with the suffix dot kp became unavailable in the third quarter of last year because of servers going offline, reports pcworld.com.
However, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is thought to have moved to restore the servers, allowing the rest of the world to visit the websites.
Writing for the news provider, Martyn Williams said that recent outages "didn't affect users in North Korea", only people trying to view them from the rest of the world.
"The country has a domestic intranet that makes use of dot-kp domain names, but the network isn't connected to the internet, so has its own servers," he wrote.
"Ordinary North Koreans are not allowed access to the internet, as part of the government's attempts to limit exposure to information from overseas."
Elsewhere last month, the dot UK domain name surpassed nine million sites as businesses continue to invest in the internet to promote their products.
