House of Fraser has announced that its sales over the Christmas period were at record levels after customers turned to online shopping in the face of poor weather conditions.
Like-for-like sales increased by 8.5 per cent, but its ecommerce site witnessed a 120 per cent growth in trading compared to 2009 figures.
Online shopping spending is now estimated to reach £100 million this year as more people turn to the internet for their purchasing needs, reports The Financial Times.
John King, the firm's chief executive, told the news provider that figures would have been even better had it not been for the poor weather.
"If it wasn't for the snow, we would have reported double-digit growth over Christmas," he said.
"We held our nerve on beauty products, and didn’t price match or discount, and we pretty much sold out."
Research analyst Hitwise reported last week that ecommerce sites saw 26 per cent more visitors on Boxing Day (December 26th) than it did on Christmas Day.
