Microsoft has announced that its latest trading figures show revenue sales in the three months to December 31st rose by five per cent, which could mean more companies are using managed hosting through the IT giant.
The firm's second-quarter revenues were $19.95 billion (£12.54 billion), up from $19.02 billion at the same point in 2009, as companies increased their expenditure on Windows 7 and other products, such as servers.
Released in October 2009, Windows 7 is Microsoft's latest operating system, replacing Windows Vista which was placed on the market in January 2007.
Microsoft's report said that the system is now used on 20 per cent of Internet-connected PCs, with its developers adding around 100 Windows Phone 7 applications to the market every day.
Kevin Turner, chief operating officer of Microsoft, said that expenditure from companies has helped the company hit high figures for the trading period.
"The pace of business spending, combined with strong consumer demand, led to another quarter of operating margin expansion and solid earnings per share growth," he said.
"Business demand for our productivity and infrastructure products and cloud solutions is strong."
