Halfords' website goes down after domain name renewal problem
Businesses should ensure they remember to renew their domain names after a website of one of the UK's leading retailers went down for 24 hours last week.
According to computerworlduk.com, Halfords' ecommerce site was not available for more than a day because somebody forgot to renew the domain name.
Instead of information on bikes, car parts and clothing, customers were met with the following message.
"If you are the current registrant for this domain name and wish to continue the registration on the domain, you must immediately contact the domain name provider and renew the domain name to ensure the name is not deleted," it said.
The news provider reports that the site reappeared on January 21st after more than 24 hours out of action.
Last month, the Daily Telegraph reported that only half of British technology companies surveyed by Sedo had the .com domain of their company's name, while less than ten per cent had .net or .biz domain names.
