Cloud computing will be a "top technology priority" for businesses of different sizes, according to an expert.
Nathan Marke, chief technology officer at 2e2, said that the need to cut costs while retaining a strong computer department will see more firms turn to the technology.
The International Data Corporation found last month that the worldwide cloud management software market will have strong growth in the next few years, with $2.5 billion (£1.55 billion) expected to be spent by 2015.
Mr Marke added that the scalability of the technology will ensure that firms only pay for what they need, providing them with the flexibility to increase and decrease use depending on how busy their work is.
"Cost pressures have continued to grow while IT departments struggle to increase business agility and cope with the peaks and troughs in demand for applications and services," he said.
"The challenge for most CIOs is now to establish which type of cloud computing model, whether it be a public, private or even a hybrid approach, best meets their business needs."
