Efficient managed hosting can lead to cost savings
Adopting the right managed hosting strategy could help businesses save money, Green IT Magazine has suggested.
According to the bi-monthly online publication, which is distributed to some 70,000 professionals, data centres use as much power as 3,000 homes every year, so signing up to a provider that offers efficient racks can lead to lower overall costs.
For managed hosting service providers, cutting data centre consumption could drastically reduce their bottom line as well, particularly as electricity is the single biggest cost that businesses can affect.
Josh Boulton, publisher of Green IT Magazine, said: "It has a very quick impact, and there's a genuine bottom line saving that can be achieved. It's one area where [if you are introducing] power reduction into your virtualisation techniques you see an impact on your bottom line straight away."
He was speaking after the second annual European Green IT survey by Devoteam indicated that 90 per cent of companies operating datacentres are actively looking at improving their energy consumption.
