Localised search engine optimisation (SEO) could be something that small businesses begin to consider in the near future as Google may begin focusing on it as a way of ranking pages.
That is according to Jake Hird, senior research analyst at Econsultancy, a digital marketing company, who said that it may be better to look at localised advertising instead of wider SEO content to help better place a website in search engines.
Earlier this month, MerchantCircle revealed that local businesses in the US are turning to low-cost marketing methods, including social networking, instead of more traditional methods such as email marketing.
Mr Hird added that Google Instant isn't localised yet, but that it may only be a matter of time before the search company changes its method of ranking websites.
"If you've got a small, localised business, there's the importance of getting your listings up on things like Google Maps and Google Places and all these kind of things, because that makes the difference in terms of how it might potentially go," he said.
