Many companies may have to change their search engine optimisation techniques after Google announced that it is changing its algorithms.
Around 11.8 per cent of searches are thought to be affected with Google making amendments designed to reduce rankings for low-quality websites.
However, the news is good for websites with original content and in-depth information as they will see a boost to their rankings, according to Google's blog site.
Company fellow Amit Singhal and principal engineer Matt Cutts explained the decision on the site, adding that emphasis is being placed on high-quality websites.
"Google depends on the high-quality content created by wonderful websites around the world, and we do have a responsibility to encourage a healthy web ecosystem," they wrote.
"Therefore, it is important for high-quality sites to be rewarded, and that's exactly what this change does."
Earlier this month, Horst Jopen of Econsultancy said that Google News involvement is the best way to improve SEO.
