Ignoring spam messages is the best way to reduce their significance, expert says
People should stop replying to spam emails to ensure that there is no market for them, according to an IT expert.
Tony Neate, the managing director of internet security awareness website getsafeonline.org, said that though there is only a proportion of spam messages that have danger attached to them, ignoring them will help them cease to exist.
A study by myvouchercodes.co.uk, published earlier this week, found that one in ten people are fooled by spam emails.
Businesses could help prevent spam emails making it into inboxes by setting up a firewall, anti-spam and anti-virus protection.
Mr Neate added that people's response to spam is crucial to its existence and that ignoring it is the best way to reduce its significance.
He said: "But they haven't completely stopped being sent out by spammers and the reason is because people still respond to spam emails, and while people still respond to them then there is a market for them."
