Cloud computing in schools would be a 'great step forward'
Using cloud computing in schools "would be a great step forward for education", according to a leading expert.
Sarah Underwood, magazine and brand editor of ICT for Education, a digital magazine that provides information for professionals in the sector, said that adoption of cloud computing is just around the corner for ICT specialist schools and academies.
She warned, however, that ICT experts must be at the forefront of adoption as others still have data security in regards to the technology.
Her comments come only weeks after The Higher Education Funding Council for England announced that it would be funding cloud services for UK colleges and universities through a new £12.5 million programme.
Ms Underwood added that there are several benefits to cloud adoption, which could include the use of virtualisation and server sharing.
She said: "It saves them from downtime, maintenance, upgrades, it has shared costs and they don't have to run it for themselves."
