Airlines to introduce boarding passes on mobiles more as people increase use of devices
As well as using technological innovation to improve ecommerce websites, airlines will also increase their use of barcode boarding passes through smartphones in the coming years.
That is according to a new report published by Juniper Research, which found that one in seven barcode passes will be sent to people's mobile phones instead of through email by 2013.
The figures provide further evidence of the growing popularity of people using mobile devices, with many companies improving their online shopping sites so they can be used through mobiles.
Research published by eMarketer on Monday (March 21st) showed that ecommerce sales are set to increase by 14 per cent in the US during 2011.
Howard Wilcox, author of Juniper Research's report, explained why more airlines will be making mobile boarding passes.
"For the frequent flyer, we believe that using your mobile for booking, passing through security and boarding is a winning offer that will be augmented by adding loyalty, seat selection and flight information all in the single application," he said.
