Ecommerce figures rose 18 per cent across Europe in 2010, new research shows
Ecommerce figures increased by 18 per cent across Europe in 2010 and will continue to grow over the following 12 months, according to a new report.
Forrester Research found that with 57 per cent of adults now shopping online, internet spending is expected to reach 92 billion euros (£78.96 billion) this year, a rise of 13 per cent.
Additionally, 72 per cent of the British internet population purchased something on an ecommerce site last year, suggesting that companies could take advantage of this with a dynamic web site to draw visitors.
Patti Freeman Evans, Forrester vice-president and research director, said that the ecommerce market "remains strong" in the US and Western Europe, adding that there were a number of factors behind the increase.
"In Europe, very strong growth in 2010 was fuelled by new online buyers and higher spend per capita on the demand side, as well as the launch of transactional websites by established offline players," she said.
The IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index found that Brits spent £5.1 billion online during January, a year-on-year increase of 21 per cent.
