Ecommerce sales set to grow by 14% in US this year, says eMarketer
Ecommerce sales are expected to grow by around 14 per cent over the next year, according to a new report.
eMarketer's latest research predicts that internet sales will grow to $188.1 billion (£115.51 billion) as more people head online to do their shopping.
Furthermore, the report found that 83 per cent of US internet users aged 14 and over will buy something online, with 76.3 per cent of the US online population expected to be purchasing through ecommerce sites by 2015.
Jeffrey Grau, eMarketer principal analyst and author of the report, said that the use of smartphones is expected to help growth through online means.
"Two major trends that will fuel online buying growth are mobile commerce and daily deal sites like Groupon," he said.
"Both opportunities are expected to have strong sales growth over the next five years."
IMRG Capgemini's monthly ecommerce report, published last week, found that British consumers spent £10 billion on the internet during the first two months of this year.
