Ecommerce site usage could increase as broadband subscriber number rises
More people could be using ecommerce websites in the coming years after it was revealed that broadband subscriber numbers increased in the final quarter of last year.
ABI Research found that worldwide fixed broadband subscriber numbers totalled 503 million at the end of last year, with 48 million more people added in this time.
South Korea, Hong Kong and France were among countries where penetration was highest, suggesting that these could be markets for firms to target in the coming year.
eMarketer published a report earlier this week that showed that ecommerce sales are expected to grow by around 14 per cent in the next year, with 76.3 per cent of the US online population purchasing an item through the internet by 2015.
Khin Sandi Lynn, research associate at ABI, said that there are many reasons behind the increase in broadband usage.
"Network upgrades and offers by the operators of multimedia services over broadband networks will accelerate the growing number of subscribers adopting higher broadband speeds," she said.
