Online marketing to grow by 12.8% across UK next year, survey says
Online advertising in the UK grew by 12.8 per cent last year as more companies looked to market their products through the internet.
The Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers found that around £4 billion was spent on internet advertising last year, with social media boosting online display by 27.5 per cent in 2010, compared to the year before.
Furthermore, online advertising's share increased to 25 per cent of the total market, with marketers spending £1 in every £4 on the internet.
Guy Phillipson, chief executive officer of IAB, said that with major brands restoring their advertising budgets, the internet is proving to be a popular platform.
"The power of online to build brands is clearly reflected in the spectacular growth of display, thanks to the popularity of social media and video formats," he said.
"And with mobile advertising finally coming of age, marketers are enjoying an incredible array of digital opportunities."
Last month, a report by Econsultancy and SAS found that nearly three-quarters of businesses will be increasing their online marketing budgets over the next 12 months.
