'Switched-on' candidates turning to social media to get job vacancies

'Switched-on' candidates turning to social media to get job vacancies

Recruitment firms could look at marketing their jobs through social media after one expert said that "switched-on" job candidates are using social media to get vacancies first.

James Swift, director and founder of Beyond Interactive, the online recruitment communications firm, said that more candidates are using Twitter to find out about jobs before they are advertised.

Recruitment firm Reed said earlier this month that it has launched a new feature to help promote vacancies through Twitter and LinkedIn, with the new service being offered free to all recruiters advertising vacancies through their site.

Mr Swift added that more candidates are now using Twitter to find out about jobs earlier, meaning that more companies could use the medium to attract candidates.

"It's the same for companies, as well. If you've got a job that you want advertised on job boards or in the press, you have to wait – you have to get it copywritten and stuff – whereas you can actually post it onto Twitter straight away," he said.

"The candidates that are following that company will find out about the role a lot quicker."
