Businesses looking at ways to market their brand online should look at social media as it offers a "two-way dialogue" with customers.
That is according to Stephen Haines, commercial director of Facebook's UK operations, who told a marketing event last week that putting the user at the centre of a marketing and branding plans will rarely fail.
Mr Haines was speaking at the Technology For Marketing & Advertising event, which took place at Earls Court at the beginning of this month.
Presentations featuring leading suppliers of digital, direct, data and CRM solutions took place, offering networking opportunities for those in the marketing industry,
Mr Haines added that social networking websites will be crucial to the future of attracting people's attentions.
"We're just starting to touch on this [idea of] 'social by design', where customers like yourself actually ask us how to take a step back from advertising and actually reflect the users with a product's design," he said.
"Brands now are actually becoming a two-way dialogue for users; gone are the days when advertisers would just push a message."
