Cloud hosting set to be a 'mega-trend' in the coming years, says an expert
Businesses using cloud hosting represents a "mega-trend" that is seeing many people using the technology without being conscious of it.
That is according to August-Wilhelm Scheer, president of BITKOM, an organisation that covers the technology sector in Germany, who told the Economic Times that cloud services could be more widely used in the country in 2011.
A survey by BITKOM found that the cloud sector is expected to rise by around 55 per cent in the coming 12 months, and could represent as much as ten per cent of the overall IT market by 2015.
Mr Scheer told the news provider firms introducing hosted services will become the norm over the coming years.
"Cloud computing is the mega-trend in the high-tech sector. It is going to change the IT sector completely," he told the news provider.
"Many people are using cloud computing without even knowing it."
A survey by PeoplePerHour.com, published last month, found that three-quarters of businesses do not currently use cloud computing.
