Azerbaijan domain name registrations rise 36 per cent in March, report says
Businesses of every size in Azerbaijan are moving quickly to acquire domain names relating to their services after new figures revealed high registration numbers.
Around 11,361 website addresses with domains ending in a variation of .az, the country's suffix, have been purchased in total.
According to the report released by whois.az, domain name registrations increased by 35.7 per cent in March with 10,340 addresses now having a .az ending.
Additionally, 560 .com.az domain names have been purchased, along with 128 .edu.az, 95 .org.az and 67 .net.az units.
The report comes after interest in royal wedding-themed website addresses increased on eBay, with the introduction of theroyalwedding2011.co.uk.
One user is asking for £25,000 for thebritishroyalwedding2011.com, as they believe people can "cash in on your share of this internet traffic to promote yourself or your business".
Also last week, an auction took place to find a new owner of the domain name pad.com, an address that could become very sought after because of the rise in tablet devices.
