China's ecommerce market has become 'formidable force'
The Chinese ecommerce market has become a "formidable force" in the last five years having increased by 90 per cent, according to new report.
China's E-commerce Market: The Logistics Challenges, published by management consultancy group AT Kearney, revealed that ecommerce has grown from $750 million (£454 million) in 2004 to more than $32 billion in 2009.
Additionally, it predicted that the Chinese online shopping market will be worth some $83 billion this year and $176 billion by 2014.
It added that a number of companies are outsourcing their delivery services to third-party providers because of they can give better quality distribution. .
Logistics, according to the company's report, is key to a growing ecommerce market in the country.
"The real solutions are more likely to be found in strategic partnerships between ecommerce firms and third-party logistics providers. Indeed, within a few years, we expect to see a transformation in China's e-commerce logistics landscape, where ecommerce plus logistics providers will equal market success," he said.
Research from Nielsen's Multichannel Survey revealed earlier this month that Italy could be the ideal place for ecommerce websites to target a new audience.
