SMEs could turn to managed hosting as companies 'overwhelmed' in battle to be sustainable
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could turn to managed hosting services after a leading energy organisation said that companies are struggling to embrace sustainability.
Professor Ross King, joint programme director at the Centre for Sustainable Environmental Management - Brunel Management Programme (CSEM - BMP), said that becoming efficient falls behind making profit in a company's list of priorities.
He added that companies with an environmental officer were "relatively on the ball" when it came to reducing their carbon footprint.
However, the public sector is better at staying sustainable as small businesses are "overwhelmed" by what it takes to keep a business running, according to Professor King.
"Certainly, when you get down to the SMEs, they really do struggle. Some of these people are run off their feet just trying to keep their business alive," he said.
His comments come after a report by the Cambridge Network, published yesterday (April 11th), revealed that a greater number of public sector organisations are classified as 'leaders' in their attitudes to sustainability, such as using dedicated hosting.
