Manufacturing sector turning to cloud hosting services, report finds
Cloud hosting services are helping the manufacturing sector save money and therefore increase profits, according to a new survey by Microsoft.
The technology giant's Discrete Manufacturing Cloud Computing Survey 2011 revealed that more IT chiefs in the sector are deciding to move various technology services to cloud.
Around 48.3 per cent of the IT decision markers it questioned said that cloud services lowered infrastructure costs, with 38.4 per cent saying that it will help them respond quicker to business demands.
Sanjay Ravi, managing director of Worldwide Discrete Manufacturing Industry for Microsoft, said that customer relations can also be improved by cloud computing.
"Manufacturers are exploring ways to improve product design with social product development, enhance visibility across multiple tiers in the value chain, and create new business models and customer experiences based on smart devices connecting to the cloud," he said.
Last week, the UK government revealed that cloud computing is a part of its plans for technological improvements in the coming years.
