South African firms turning to cloud hosting services, report finds
Four out of every ten small businesses in South Africa will be paying for at least one cloud hosting service in the next three years in a trend that could be replicated in the UK.
That is according to a report published by Microsoft, which found that a further 88 per cent of small businesses it questioned in the country expect to be paying for around five cloud services by 2014.
It added that cloud computing could be ideal for companies looking to maintain their size but become more profitable and cost-effective, reports thenewage.co.za.
Mark Reynolds, the head of small and medium-sized businesses at Microsoft South Africa, told the news provider that firms could even be looking for a mix between cloud and on-site services.
"Cloud adoption will be gradual and small to medium businesses will continue to operate in a hybrid model with an increasing blend between off-premises and traditional on-premises infrastructure, for the foreseeable future," he said.
David Buffett, the chief executive officer of Radiant Communications, told the Vancouver Sun that companies are realising that it is cheaper to use cloud computing.
