Small firms can increase online presence to boost visibility, expert says
Small businesses should look at increasing their presence online because it can boost visibility and customer support.
That is according to Phil Kingsland, site director of knowthenet.org.uk, who said that while not every businesses will need to move every aspect of what they do to the internet, it can help.
He added that businesses should look at using an ecommerce site as part of "how the internet may support revenue growth".
His comments come after Demandware announced that of the 454 consumers it questioned across North America, the UK, France and Germany, 90 per cent have smartphones and this is increasingly being used as a way to engage with retailers.
Mr Kingsland added that there are many ways to improve a business that is using an online site to boost revenue growth.
"Operational tweaks can also enhance online revenue; for example, using an ecommerce platform that supports 'recommendations' could encourage up-selling to your customers and, similarly, an understanding of web analytics might result in your re-evaluating your search marketing investment," he said.
