Managed hosting could follow as data centre downtime proves costly
Companies could turn to managed hosting in the future after a new report revealed that data centre downtime can cost around $5,000 (£3,000) per minute.
Research published by Emerson Network Power shows that using a reliable data centre is important with the potential cost to failure priced at $300,000 per hour.
Furthermore, the average recovery time for a data centre is 134 minutes, making potential losses of $680,000 and a greater need for server hosting, reports eweekeurope.co.uk.
Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute, told the news provider that the cost of data centre failure can be very significant.
"With the increase in reliance on IT systems to support business-critical applications, a single downtime event now has the potential to significantly impact the profitability – and in extreme cases, the viability – of an enterprise," he said.
Hamish Macarthur, the chief executive officer and co-founder of Macarthur Stroud International, said earlier this month that companies with dedicated servers in new data centres are maximising their energy savings to save money.
