Facebook is not looking to advertise through mobile phones at the moment, according a senior figure from the company.
Fergal Walker, Facebook's head of mobile partnerships for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, told the Monetising Mobile Conference in London last week that the social networking website is only looking to encourage people to use internet through mobile devices.
Additionally, he is quoted by Juniper Research as saying that the company does not "really have any clear answers or positions in the market".
This could mean that businesses looking to market their products through mobile phones turn to other social networking websites, such as Twitter.
It comes after Vineet Nayar, chief executive of HCL Technologies, said earlier this month that businesses should be looking to "encourage social media activity" to help with marketing.
He added that it would be "corporate suicide" for companies to look at banning social networking for their employees.
