Cloud services could be used as government introduces new carbon reduction targets
Cloud hosting services could be used by businesses after an expert said that the government's new carbon reduction targets are achievable.
John Barwise, chair of Cumbria Green Business Forum, said that the government will need to provide the Green Investment Bank with financial resources to help it invest in renewable energy.
Businesses could cut their own carbon footprint by using cloud services as it removes on-site server use.
Mr Barwise explained that the government will need to show its support to organisations looking to meet new targets.
"The new emissions reduction targets are ambitious but achievable, provided the government is united in supporting those businesses that can deliver them," he said.
"This means giving the Green Investment Bank the powers to borrow money to support investments in renewables technologies and energy efficiency on a scale that can deliver the targets."
Managed hosting could also be used after research by Emerson Network Power, published earlier this month, said that data centre downtime can cost up to £3,000 per minute.
