Security not a big issue for companies look at cloud, report says
Security is not the biggest issue for companies searching for cloud hosting services, according to a new report.
CA Technology's Security of Cloud Computing Providers report found that fewer than 30 per cent of the 127 US and European vendors questioned listed security as one of its most important responsibilities.
Nearly two thirds of those asked in the US (62 per cent) and Europe (63 per cent) said that they are not confident or unsure that their cloud services are sufficiently secured.
Furthermore, cloud users named intellectual properties, financial information and employee records as too risky to put in the cloud - suggesting that companies could offload other documents.
It also revealed that 72 per cent of cloud computing providers believe that business continuity and disaster recovery is a critical area of focus.
Spencer Parker, group product manager at Websense, said last week that software-as-a-service is becoming "huge" as companies outsource their IT.
