Hitwise notes online marketing potential of Facebook
The online marketing benefits of having a corporate Facebook profile have been illustrated by new research from Hitwise.
According to the market intelligence firm, every new fan acquired by a retailer on the social media site leads to an additional 20 visits to the brand's website over the course of a year.
Robin Goad, research director at Hitwise, revealed a number of other "wow-factor stats" that highlight the importance of Facebook, the second-most visited website in the UK after Google.
One in six webpage views from British consumers is directed at the social network and 20 million hours are spent on the site every day by people from this country, he said.
"For the top retailers, even if they have no Facebook fans they can still expect to receive on average 62,000 visits from Facebook each month," Mr Goad added.
The news comes shortly after TechCrunch, citing a source close to Facebook, revealed the service now has 750 million active users every month.
