Cloud hosting services are more likely to be introduced by chief information officers than chief executive officers, according to a new survey.
Symantec found in a new survey that 72 per cent of CIOs are looking at adopting cloud services, while more than half of CEOs are wary of handing over mission-critical data.
This suggests that CIOs could convince CEOs that the cost-saving benefits of cloud computing are worth the risk with data.
John Magee, vice-president of virtualisation and cloud solutions at Symantec, said that cloud computing represents "a major shift within IT" for businesses of all sizes.
"Moving to the cloud is a complex evolution for many companies, and it's essential that IT and executives are aligned on initiatives," he said.
"Virtualisation is an enabler for private and hybrid clouds, and our survey shows that planning a seamless move is critical to achieving all the simplicity, affordability and efficiency that these environments have to offer."
Basil Daniells, the regional sales director of the Middle East, North Africa and India for Epicor, told the Saudi Gazette earlier this month that cloud computing can help small companies compete.
