Cloud hosting is like old electricity system, expert says
Cloud hosting services are comparable to the history of electricity as the technology moves from on-site hosting to something wider.
That is according to Paul Rellis, the managing director of Microsoft in Ireland, who told the Irish Times that cloud services is enabling businesses to pool their resources together and therefore saving money.
He added that cloud computing acts in the same way as electricity and that he expects it to develop in a similar way in the future.
"Years ago every organisation had its own generator and produced its own electricity, but then big companies, governments and semi-states created an electricity grid, transformed lives and created a huge industry," he told the news provider.
"Cloud computing acts in the same way."
Dell has announced that it will be creating 140 jobs in Ireland as it looks to increase its research into cloud computing and how the technology can work in companies.
