IBM to focus on cloud hosting services as it reaches centenary year
Cloud hosting services are to be the focus for IBM over the coming years as the company reaches its centenary year.
The firm said yesterday (June 13th) that cloud services, analytics, Smarter Planet initiative and growth markets will be its four key areas of focus for the near future.
Furthermore, v3.co.uk reports that the company has witnessed greater sales in its cloud computing products in the first quarter of this year than it did in the whole of 2010.
Stephen Leonard, IBM's UK chief executive, told the news provider that "no one knows more" about cloud computing than IBM.
He added: "It's unique to be 100 years old. No one else in the industry is anywhere near to being this old and that says something about the industry itself," he said, before outlining the four strategies that IBM will follow to get ahead in the marketplace."
IBM launched a new cloud platform for the education sector earlier this month, giving schools the possibility of help with student retention.
