SaaS business model 'is appealing to SMEs'
The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business model is particularly attractive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a technology expert has claimed.
Mayank Kapoor, research analyst for information and communications technology practice in the Asia Pacific region at Frost & Sullivan, said it makes sense for virtual office space to be adopted by smaller firms.
Speaking to Singapore's Today Online, Mr Kapoor explained that since SMEs "do not have large IT teams, the SaaS model is highly attractive for them, freeing up time to focus on the core business".
The technology could be adopted by an increasing number of small businesses in the coming years, as Forrester Research recently predicted revenues from the global SaaS market will rise to $92.8 billion (£58 billion) in 2016.
This represents a significant rise on the current value of the channel, which stands at $21.2 billion, according to the organisation.
By 2016, SaaS is expected to account for around 26 per cent of the packaged software market.
