Hungary makes changes to domain name regulations
Politicians in Hungary have made amendments to domain name rules with the intention of shortening the application process for '.hu' applicants.
As part of the changes, existing trademark owners will be given a period of eight days to file an objection to the use of a title by an outside party, signalling a six-day reduction from previous laws.
The alterations to the unique system aim to combat the disadvantage caused to a number of top-level domains through the longer application period.
In addition, the Hungarian process allows rights holders to prevent infringements before outside individuals are able to register a new domain name.
As part of the new regulations, applicants must be a citizen of the European Union, as well as own a trademark with the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office.
Meanwhile, ICANN has recently approved plans to make significant changes to the online domain name system, with intentions to increase the number of name endings.
