Ecommerce businesses with poor spelling and grammar on their websites could face losing revenue, an expert has suggested.
Online entrepreneur Charles Duncombe has urged internet firms to ensure facts and figures are correct before adding them to homepages.
Speaking to BBC News, Mr Duncombe claimed that a single spelling mistake can cut a company's online sales in half due to customer concerns about reliability.
His recommendation emerged after the Office for National Statistics revealed UK ecommerce sales reached £527 million per week last month.
"If you project this across the whole of internet retail, then millions of pounds worth of business is probably being lost each week due to simple spelling mistakes," added Mr Duncombe.
In addition, the mobile phone and clothing website leader acknowledged an increase in errors contained in recruitment letters from university graduates.
This news comes after research from IMRG and eDigitalResearch predicted ecommerce jobs in the UK could reach 1.5 million by 2015.
