Businesses using cloud services in a bid to save money on costly IT operations could be interested in the latest news from Microsoft.
Yesterday (July 18th) the computer giant unveiled its new tool kit for use by scientists at its 12th annual Research Facility Summit.
The facility, given the codename Daytona, is set to allow researchers to gain access to large-scale data collections using its Windows Azure programme.
By using the newly developed service, scientists will be able to utilise the cloud and will no longer be restricted to the use of computers, explained Dan Reed, corporate vice president of the Technology Policy Group at Microsoft.
"We're very excited to empower the research community with this enhanced tool kit that will hopefully lead to greater scientific insights," he added.
The IT company also announced plans to inject $15 million (£13 million) of funding into the research and development of new learning technologies for children in the US.
