Business leaders contemplating adopting cloud services to increase the productivity of their employees could receive further encouragement from new figures.
According to analysis company Canalys, the overall revenue generated by the introduction of the technology is set to reach $40 billion (£25 billion) by 2015.
Emerging as a result of increased confidence in the IT management system, the forecast sees a rise from the recorded $29 billion last year.
In addition, the organisation has anticipated a shift from the consolidation of multiple server rooms to privately-owned or third-party-operated large data centres.
"The challenge, however, is getting the right scale of compute, storage and network resources to meet current and future demand without too much or too little capacity," remarked analyst Alex Smith.
Canalys's predictions emerge after ABI Research named Microsoft the number one provider of unified communications following detailed results from its vendor matrix.
