Hillingdon Council set to adopt cloud services
Members of staff at Hillingdon Council could see changes to their IT facilities following proposals to adopt cloud services.
According to Computerworld UK, the local authority has expressed its desire to use the software in a bid to operate collaborated email, calendar and documents.
In addition, the move will allow councillors to use integrated speech and video conferencing, as well as drag-and-drop site development tools.
The IT department has previously adopted a number of virtualisation technologies, including storage and business applications and virtualised servers.
"We now wish to migrate from the current infrastructure to provide a cloud-based desktop computing infrastructure, which, aside from the locally-installed browser, is free from any client installation or maintenance," explained the council.
This news comes after rumours that online shopping company Amazon is set to develop a new data centre in Australia, the Australian reports.
Although the firm has not confirmed the plans, the newspaper suggests the retailer is preparing to create the cloud services division in Sydney.
